Mount Sinai's Sinai Community Institute is a remodel of a three story sausage factory. The Institute provides community based health services such as WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), counseling, family services and parent education, and Chicago Family Case Management. The building required extensive renovation, including structural concrete repairs, a new roof, new elevator shafts, new stairways, tuckpointing, and new windows. This project was undertaken as a joint effort with Ilekis Associates Architects.
Several years later, Stephen Rankin Associates returned to the site to design the Gads Hill Child Care Center which opened in collaboration with the Sinai Community Institute. Gads Hill Child Care offers child care, Head Start programs, and after school programs at the Center in the North Lawndale community of Chicago.
